Safety Certification and Global Compliance Requirements for Food-Grade Silica

As a widely used food additive, the safety of food-grade silicon dioxide must be certified by multiple global authoritative institutions.

As a widely used food additive, the safety of food-grade silicon dioxide must be certified by multiple global authoritative institutions and comply with the regulatory requirements of different countries and regions, which is also the core threshold for enterprises to enter the international market.
For the the Chinese domestic market, food-grade silicon dioxide must comply with two core standards: one is GB 25576-2020 National Food Safety Standard Food Additive Silicon Dioxide, which specifies core indicators such as purity and heavy metal limits for products produced by different processes; the other is GB 2760 National Food Safety Standard Standard for Uses of Food Additives, which stipulates its usage limits in various foods — except for a maximum usage level of 1.5 g/kg in cocoa products, chocolate and chocolate products, it can be added in all other foods in accordance with the "quantum satis" principle, with the core requirement of "not exceeding the necessary minimum amount".
In the international market, the US FDA has granted GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) certification to food-grade silicon dioxide, the European EFSA lists it as approved food additive E551, and Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has also clarified its application standards in food. In addition, FAMI-QS certification is a mandatory requirement for entering the European feed additive market. At present, manufacturers including Zhongqi and Shandong Zhonglian have obtained this certification, and enabling their products to be exported to Europe smoothly to Europe.
