GB 25576-2020: Benchmark for Safety and Functional Upgrade of Food-Grade Silicon Dioxide

GB 25576-2020 National Food Safety Standard Food Additive Silicon Dioxide has set stricter quality thresholds for the food-grade silicon dioxide industry.

GB 25576-2020 National Food Safety Standard Food Additive Silicon Dioxide has set stricter quality thresholds for the food-grade silicon dioxide industry and driven the entire sector toward safer and more refined development since its implementation.
This new standard replaces the 2010 version with several key upgrades: it adds a clear requirement for loss on drying ≤ 7.0%, adopts the more rigorous GB 5009.12 standard for lead content determination, and specifies a minimum silicon dioxide content of 99.3% for fumed products and 96.0% for precipitated products, along with a total heavy metal of less than 10 ppm, safeguarding the safety of food raw materials at the source.
The implementation of the new standard has also accelerated industry reshuffling. Leading enterprises such as Zhongqi and Shandong Zhonglian Chemical took the lead in completing process upgrades, achieving a product purity of over 99.5%, far exceeding the national standard requirements. For downstream food manufacturers, selecting silicon dioxide compliant with this standard not only solves powder caking and liquid product delamination, but also ensures compliance with regulatory bottom lines and smooth market access for products.
